5 Instagram Marketing Trends to Watch in 2022

5 Instagram Marketing Trends to Watch in 2022

Are you wondering where your brand should be spending time on Instagram in 2022? Just when we’ve gotten used to one feature of the platform, another one gets introduced.

When it comes to Instagram, the more your business can stay ahead of the curve and integrate the changes into your marketing strategy, the better! It’s important to stay informed, be flexible, and take advantage of every feature to grow your online presence.

Read on to discover five of the top Instagram marketing trends to leverage in 2022.

Trend #1: Instagram link stickers

If you hop on Instagram stories right now, chances are you’ll find Instagram’s latest interactive feature, link stickers. The new feature is particularly helpful for smaller accounts looking to grow their engagement, increase traffic to their website, and drive brand discovery. The best part? Anyone can use it!

In the past, only accounts with 10,000 followers could have the coveted swipe-up feature on their stories to direct users to an outside link. But in October 2021, the link stickers feature was introduced and made available to anyone - regardless of their account size. You can now directly link to a product, services page, blog post, podcast or video, right from your story.

Trend #2: In-app shopping

Since the start of the pandemic, there’s been a huge surge in online shopping that doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. With this in mind, Instagram is making it easier than ever for users to shop brand posts without ever leaving the app.

From shoppable posts and stories, customers can easily view a full product description right from a brand’s Instagram storefront. In true e-commerce fashion, buyers input their payment information and checkout from the comfort of anywhere. The ease of Instagram shopping is especially beneficial for your brand’s bottom line, since customers are much more likely to go through with their purchase within the app.

Trend #3: More live streams

Social media platform, e-commerce marketplace…and real-life streaming channel? Instagram Lives saw a huge boost throughout the pandemic - when people were stuck at home and seeking connection from their phones. Since Covid-19 is still very much present in 2022, this trend will likely continue to gain popularity among users

There are plenty of ways to get creative using Instagram Live including product tutorials, behind-the- scenes footage, interviews, or Q&As with viewers. Brands with a strong presence on Instagram Live will have more potential to connect with their existing followers and also gain a bigger audience.

Trend #4: Reels everywhere

Last year, the reels feature took over Instagram. You can expect an even stronger takeover in 2022. This short-form video feature should be a key component of any brand’s social media strategy. The reason reels have a clear advantage over static posts is their ability to show up on Instagram’s explore page – where anyone can see content regardless if they are a follower or not.

Inspired by TikTok, Instagram reels are an opportunity to hop on social media trends and have some fun with your content. But it’s not all dance and cook-off competitions anymore – as more brands are starting to leverage reels, it’s also a great way to share informational content with your audience.

Trend #5: User-generated content

While the concept of user-generated content (UGC) isn’t anything new to Instagram marketing, it’s one trend that won’t be going anywhere in 2022. What gives UGC an edge over an influencer campaign? Authenticity. Customers are more likely to believe in a product or service when everyone is posting about it from first-hand experience.

With Instagram’s hashtag and tagging features, more brands are implementing UGC as an important part of their social media strategy. When customers create content on your behalf, you’ll save both valuable time and money in your marketing efforts. For ultimate brand awareness, encourage customers to use branded hashtags when submitting their content to be shared.

If there’s anything the last couple of years have taught us, it’s that we can’t always predict the future – and the same goes with Instagram. Consider using these trends as a starting point to guide your content marketing strategy this coming year.  As the platform continues to evolve and add new features, it will be important to focus your efforts in the right spot.

Which Instagram trend are you most looking forward to using in 2022? Stay tuned for our upcoming blog series on what you can expect to see on the gram this year.
